The cover method, step by step

In short The collection cover is a double-layer waterproof sheet sealed around the indoor unit with a drain hose down to a bucket. It allows pressure washing of the evaporator and blower right on the wall, with dirty water collected, without dismantling and without a drop on the wall or floor. The studies that measured >99% fungal reductions used exactly this combination: alkaline detergent, brushing and pressure washing.

  1. Discuss the issue and inspect the unit.
  2. Confirm and carry out the agreed work.
  3. Check the result and record observations.
Preparing the job: technician laying the protective foil on the floor and placing the white bucket
Step 1

We prepare the room

Protective foil on the floor or carpet, microfibre towel, empty white bucket. Shoe covers from the first second.

Technician fitting the collection cover around the indoor unit, the hose running down into the bucket
Step 2

We fit the cover tightly

The double-layer cover is fixed with tape and clips around the indoor unit; the 2 m hose runs down into the bucket. Nothing touches the wall.

Removing the dirty filters from the unit through the fitted cover
Step 3

We remove the filters

The filters come out through the cover and are washed separately with lukewarm water and a soft sponge; they dry on a towel while we work on the unit.

Step 4

We see what is inside

Coil and blower, photographed before. This is the layer of dust and biofilm that causes smell, allergies and higher consumption.

Step 5

First solution: cleaning

Alkaline solution sprayed on the fins and blower, left 5–10 minutes to loosen grease and bound dust.

Step 6

Pressure wash

Adjustable pressure pump, fine jet, top to bottom, on evaporator, blower and pan. Dirty water runs down the cover, into the hose, into the bucket.

Step 7

What comes out of the unit

The first bucket is grey-brown. We wash until the water runs clear: that is our criterion, not the clock.

Spraying the sanitising solution on the clean coil, cover still fitted
Step 8

Second solution: sanitising

On the clean surfaces we spray the approved sanitising solution, fragrance-free, residue-free once dry.

Step 9

The outdoor unit

On the balcony we wash the outdoor coil at low pressure from the inside out, without flattening the fins.

Step 10

We wipe and hand over

We remove the cover, wipe the cover and wall (though dry), refit the filters, run the unit on fan mode and check it with you.

The proof

We show you the clean filter next to the bucket of dirty water and send the job sheet with before/after photos on WhatsApp.

Cover or dismantling?

Dismantling makes sense only when the blower can no longer be cleaned in place (hardened deposits after years of neglect) or when the pan is cracked; otherwise it brings risks (broken clips, displaced sensors, cables) without a better result. We work with the cover on over 95% of units and say openly when dismantling is warranted.

Cover or "antibacterial" spray?

A spray into the grille reaches the first millimetres of the fins and the louver. The biofilm on the blower and in the drain pan stays intact, and the smell returns within days. A spray only makes sense as the second step, on already clean surfaces: exactly how we use it.
