What should I ask on the phone before booking, so I don't get surprises?

I want to book a sanitising for a 12,000 BTU unit in Berceni, but I've read stories about prices that 'go up on site' or technicians who explain nothing. What questions should I ask on the phone, before confirming the booking, so I know exactly what I get and how much I pay?
What is really happening
HVAC maintenance standards (ASHRAE 180, EN 15780) require periodic documentation of cleaned components' condition — inspection, cause of fouling, what was done — not just a verbal claim that 'it was cleaned'; a written report with photos is normal practice in a field where the customer can't check the unit's interior themselves. The method with demonstrated effect is mechanical pressure washing, so the dismantling question immediately separates a serious offer from a superficial one.
- Inspection: assessing condition and symptoms.
- Service check: checks and measurements appropriate to the unit.
- Cleaning: removing deposits.
- Sanitising: suitable treatment of cleaned surfaces.
The actual scope is confirmed before the visit.
- ASHRAE/ACCA Standard 180 sets the standard practice for HVAC inspection and maintenance, with periodic checks of coils, drain pans, filters and fans. [ASHRAE / ACCA, 2018]
- European standard EN 15780 defines cleanliness classes (low, medium, high) for ventilation systems and requires periodic inspections, at least annually. [CEN / BSI, 2011]
- Washing with alkaline detergent, brushing and high-pressure rinsing reduces fungi inside the unit by more than 99%. [Indoor Air, 2023]
What we do on site
- See current rates on the Prices page.
- Yes, we dismantle the grille/housing and pressure-wash the evaporator, roller, pan and hose — we don't just spray.
- Before/after photos on WhatsApp at every visit.
- Strictly sanitising — no repairs, no refrigerant top-up, no installations; if we see a real technical issue, we tell you, but we don't fix it on site.
What you can do yourself
- Note the answers on the phone (or ask for them on WhatsApp, in writing) — compare them afterwards with what actually happens at the visit.
- Also ask about a second unit — at many companies, including us, the second one in the same visit is cheaper.
What NOT to do
- Do not confirm a booking without asking if the price is final.
- Do not accept 'we'll see on site' as an answer to the process question — it's a sign the price may go up.
Prevention
Four questions: is the price final? pressure-washed or just spray? do I get photos/a report? do you also do repairs/freon? Clear answers signal a serious company.
