Portable unit with no outdoor unit — does it deserve professional sanitising or is it a different story?

I have a portable air conditioner (De'Longhi, window hose type) in a rented studio in Berceni, because I'm not allowed to mount an outdoor unit on the façade. I use it 3-4 months a summer. Can it get the same cover-and-pressure-wash sanitising as a wall split, or is a portable different because of the water tank and wheels?
What is really happening
A contaminated air conditioner, regardless of type, can raise room fungal air concentration from a few hundred to tens of thousands of units per cubic metre at start-up — the mechanism is identical in a portable, because the cold, wet indoor evaporator is the source, not an outdoor unit (which a portable doesn't have as a separate piece anyway, just the heat-exhaust hose). Only the housing and mechanical access differ, not the physics of fouling.
- The filter and air intake.
- The exhaust hose fitted according to the manual.
- Condensate handling depends on the model and operating mode.
- When a contaminated air conditioner starts, airborne fungal concentration in the room can jump from 40–920 to 5,500–100,000 CFU/m³. [Indoor Air, 2023]
- Mould does not grow below roughly 80% surface relative humidity, but the cold surfaces inside an air conditioner constantly exceed this threshold. [WHO / NCBI Bookshelf, 2009]
- Manufacturers prohibit benzine, thinner, scouring powder or insecticide on the indoor unit; only water and neutral detergent are allowed. [Mitsubishi Electric, 2020]
What we do on site
- We open the side/front housing per the model, protect the surrounding area with foil (not worked through a wall grille like a split).
- We empty and clean the internal condensate tank if present, alkaline detergent, adjustable pressure wash adapted to the small internal space.
- Fragrance-free sanitising, drying, filters (usually side sponges), housing reassembly and functional test.
- See current rates on the Prices page.
What you can do yourself
- Empty the condensate tank after each use if the model has no continuous drain.
- Side sponge filters every two weeks, easy to wash with water.
- Run it on 'Fan' for 20-30 minutes before storing it at season's end.
What NOT to do
- Do not use petrol, solvents or scouring powder on the internal housing — just as forbidden as on any other unit type.
- Do not store the portable unit wet at the end of summer — mould keeps growing shut in a garage/storage room.
