  1. The unit and indoor environment: technical inspection, moisture, deposits and maintenance.
  2. Symptoms and diagnosis: assessment by a medical professional.

A unit problem does not establish the cause of an illness. Maintenance does not replace medical care.

What is really happening

Babies and small children have narrow airways, breathe faster and spend most of their hours in the bedroom, in the path of the unit. Meta-analyses link mould and mould odour in the home to a 30–70% higher risk of asthma in children.

The simple rules: unit sanitised before the season and checked mid-season if it runs daily, temperature set at 24–26 °C (Romania's public health institute recommends 27 °C in heatwaves, with a fan), airflow aimed at the ceiling not the bed, filters washed every two weeks and humidity kept between 40 and 60%.

The evidence

What to do

Mechanical pressure cleaning of the evaporator, blower and pan inside a collection cover, then sanitising; filters washed every two weeks; room humidity kept between 40 and 60%; the unit dried on fan mode before winter. No sprays over dirt, no bleach in the unit, no refrigerant "top-ups".
